RAM f. Ultra 10

moechte meine U10 gerne auf 1GB RAM aufruesten, braeuchte dafuer allerdings noch 2x256MB.
Habe mir mal die Spezifikationen im Service-Manual angeschaut, dementsprechend koennten theoretisch auch einige Module f. Compaq Proliant Server funktionieren

U10 Service-Manual:

The DIMMs used in the system have the following characteristics:
# JEDEC standard in 168-pin DIMM
# Support ECC (x72)
# Single 3.3-VDC +/- 0.3-VDC power supply
# LVTTL-compatible input and outputs
# All inputs are buffered with exception of RAS_L
# CAS_L before RAS_L refresh capability

Ich würde entweder nur SUN-RAM oder von Kingston verwenden.
Der Speicher der U10 verwendet 11bit-Column-Adressing,
hoffentlich kann das der Compaq-Speicher auch.
Hier ein Auszug von SUN zu U5/10 Memory Notes:

  1. The minimum memory requirement is two DIMMs in any bank.
  2. The 16MB DIMM uses 10-bit column addressing and was not sold.
  3. The 32, 64, 128, and 256MB DIMMs use 11-bit column addressing.
  4. If 10-bit and 11-bit DIMMs are mixed, either pair will be ignored.
  5. The 256MB DIMMs are not supported in the Ultra 5.
  6. Memory speed is 60ns if 50ns and 60ns DIMMs are mixed.
  7. UltraSPARC IIi speeds >=360MHz support 50ns memory speed.
  8. System Boards 375-0066, 375-0079, and 375-0115 support 50ns memory.
  9. OBP >=3.25v3 is required when Micron MTxLDxx72FG-5 series EDO DIMMs are used with 360MHz, 400MHz, or 440MHz CPU modules.
Also:
kein Wunder das Speicher für die U5/10 so kostenintensiv ist,
die Kompatibilität muß gegeben sein.

Ich wäre auf jeden Fall vorsichtig!
In eine Ultra Axi, im groben der gleiche Speichertyp wie Ultra 5/10, hatte ich auch Speicher von Compaq eingebaut,
2x128Mb Hersteller Samsung, nach obiger Spezifikation eigentlich auch passend, der wurde aber nur zur Hälfte erkannt.
Nach Vergleich mit Sun-Speicher, ebenfalls original Samsung, gab es nur einen Unterschied:

Compaq Modul:  Samsung KMM372F1600CK-5        4k-cycle CAS#-BEFORE-RAS#  refresh
Sun Modul:     Samsung KMM372F1680CK-5          8k-cycle CAS#-BEFORE-RAS#  refresh

Diese Unterscheidung gibt es auch für 256Mb-Module, also KMM372F3200CS-5 (4k) vs. KMM372F3280CS-5 (8k).
Also ev. die genaue Modulbezeichnung nachfragen.
