Naja, ob Du direkt von CD das Update fahren kannst,
hab ich nicht ausprobiert. Ich hab aber gerade eben
zum Durchspielen nochmal ein Sol.8 auf meine UE1
gepackt, und da kam nach Installation von der SW 1/1
im nächsten Reboot direkt die Frage, ob ich auf 64bit
PROM Updaten möchte. Was ich dann auch getan hab.
Wie Du dann von einem bereits installierten Sol.8
den Kernel auf 64bit umschaltest, findest Du unter
http://docs.sun.com beschrieben (war närrisch einfach,
ich grab das Link nochmal aus...)

SuSE 7.1 ist das Ganze übrigens wurscht: Linux läuft 64bittig,
egal wie das PROM geflasht ist. Das ist der Vorteil, wenn sich
das OS nicht vom PROM diktieren lässt, wie es adressieren soll...
(Und der Vollständigkeit halber: Es würde mich nicht wundern,
wenn NetBSD da ähnlich selbständig vorgeht ;) )

 den Patch mit der neuesten Firmware gibt´s auf SunSolve. Du kannst dann
im laufenden Betrieb die E3000 upgraden System- und I/O-Boards.
(Search SunSolve: Firmware)

Wenn´s Probleme gibt, kann ich das Ding auch mailen...

ABER MEINE Zusatz-Frage:
Wie kann ich dies in der E3000 einspielen, wenn nur CD und Band zur Verfügung stehen und Solaris 8 noch nicht läuft ?

vab:
1. Patch downloaden und auf einer anderen Maschine im Netz bereitlegen, die einen ftp-Server laufen hat

2. Maschine mit einem alten Solaris (2.6 sollte dann gehen) von CD im Single User mode booten

3. Ethernet interface aktivieren und Patch nach /tmp ftp'en

4. Patch auspacken, ausführen, fertig


Alternative:  Jemand finden, der Dir die Firmware-Upgrade-CD für die Maschine besorgt, mit der kann man dann direkt die Firmware aktualisieren, ohne eine laufende Solaris-Instanz  haben zu müssen.

1.) As root, copy the "flash-update" files from the    
   directory containing the
   patch to the root directory as follows:

    # cp flash*latest  /
    # chmod 755 /flash-update*

    In order to boot the binary, it must be located within
    the root partition. If it is not already located within
    the root partition
    then move it to /.
    If the binary is already located elsewhere
    within the root partition then note the exact filepath
    so that the binary can be booted later.

2.) As root, exit the OS such that the system returns to
    the PROM's "ok" prompt:

    # halt

      ok

3.) Jumper J3103 is factory-set so that the flash PROM is
    write-enabled.
    There is no need to switch the jumper before flash
    updating; however, you must ensure that the keyswitch
    is in the Power-on or Diagnostics position.
    When the key switch is in the locked position the flash
    PROM is write protected.

ok boot disk /flash-update-450-latest

Type h for help, q to quit, Return or Enter to continue:                               enter
