Blade 100 mit NVRAM und Batterie: Warum?

Hallo zusammen,

was mir bei der Blade 100 nicht ganz klar wird:

Da die Blade 1x0 einen NVRAM/TOD mit integrierter Batterie besitzt, für welche Komponente auf der Systemplatine dann noch eine Extra-Batterie (neben der CPU) bereitstellen?

Im Service Manual habe ich dazu nichts gefunden. In den FIN's steht dazu leider auch nichts. 

Bei den neueren SPARC Workstations wurde an Stelle eines NVRAM/TOD mit integrierter Batterie der Einsatz eines SEEPROM (1× MAC) mit angebundender, externer Flachbatterie vorgezogen, um im Falle eines Systemboard-Austausches den IDPROM auf das neue Systemboard übertragen zu können, ohne neue Lizenzen (FLEXlm) beantragen zu müssen.

Hintergrund: Ich überlege noch, ob ich mir nicht noch ein letztes Mal ein SPARC-basiertes System über einen Reseller kaufen sollte.

Im Service Manual habe ich dazu nichts gefunden.

Im Anhang des SM stand dann doch noch etwas:

C.2.7 Flash PROM
The Sun Blade 100 motherboard contains 1 Mbyte of flash memory which is
connected to the EBus of the PCIO-2 ASIC. The flash PROM is an 8 Mbit, 5.0 volt
flash memory with faster than 120ns access time.
The 1 Mbyte of the PROM is divided into two halves, the OpenBoot PROM and the
Power-On Self Test (POST). The OpenBoot PROM and POST image reside in a
separate address space off of the EBus space. There is a ROMBO connector for
OpenBoot PROM and POST software development during initial bringup phase and
two jumpers, one for enabling the use of connector ROMBO, the other for flash
PROM write protect.

C.2.9 NVRAM/TOD
The system requires at least 8 Kbytes of non-volatile static RAM to store the
variables for the operating system and a real time clock to do timekeeping. This
device has both functions integrated plus the self-contained battery. It also has a
programmable alarm interrupt output which can be used by the software to enable
auto-shutdown (auto suspend/resume) as a power management choice.

Also ist die Batterie für den Flash PROM, das den OBP enthält und der NVRAM enthält aber wie gehabt die Host-ID. Habe ich das richtig verstanden?

Dann bleiben als Alternativen ohne NVRAM/TOD-Chip mit integrierter Batterie:

Da wäre eine Blade 1500 eventuell genau richtig.

Oder man bastelt an den alten NVRAM/TOD eine neue, passende Batterie ran.
