Ich hatte Probleme eine über die Solaris 10 Installation gelabelte Platte unter Solaris 9 zum Laufen zu bekommen. Erst nach einer low-level Formatierung am PC ging es dann. Wahrscheinlich bin ich auf das weitere unten beschriebene Problem (EFI nach VTOC) gestossen.
Sun stellt für Solaris 10 SPARC den Patch 119374-01 (bzw. Patch 119375-01 für SunOS 5.10_x86: sd Patch) zur Verfügung. Dieser ermöglicht die Verwendung größerer Platten (eine 143GB wurde nur als 35GB erkannt) und von EFI nach VTOC Labeln "zurückzuwechseln".
Nun scheint dieser Patch aber unter bestimmten Umständen eine "divide by zero" kernel panic zu verursachen.

Yes, we know about it. Bug 6249580 is about to be putback. The divide is
caused by a race condition. By re-arranging how the code for 5042195 is
used we were able to avoid the problem. We are hoping to do the putback for
it today for Solaris 10 through Solaris 7.
If it becomes an issue for anyone you can contact Sun Support and ask them
for the IDR for 6249580. Hopefully we will also have a T-patch VSN.
