Welche Festplatten arbeiten eigentlich in einer Sun Blade 1000

Hi DoomWarrior,

der Link in der Antwort führt auf eine Seite von Hitatchi. Ich habe aber ein Segate Cheetah ST373307FC. Ist die Pinbelegung bei FC-Platten etwa genormt, oder muss ich mir die entsprechenden Angaben von Segate besorgen?

ich habs zumindest in keiner unixkiste geschaft eine platte mit abgeschalteten spin up zum laufen zu bekommen, klingt seltsam ist aber so *g*

öh, bei einer Systemplatte hab ich das offen gesagt noch nie getestet. Bei Datenplatten machen das aber alle BSDs.

The drive’s motor will start spinning the discs based on the status of two signals
set by the host adapter. These two signals are called Start_1 and
Start_2. There are four options as described below.
Option Start_2 Start_1 Motor spin function
1 ........... Low....... Low ........Motor spins up at DC power on.
2 ........... High ...... Low ........ Motor spins up when the host adapter sends
the SCSI Start command.
3 ........... Low....... High........ Motor spins up after a delay of 12 seconds
times the physical address of the drive.
4 ........... High ...... High........ The drive will not spin up.
Most systems that host only a couple of drives use option 1 to enable all of
the drives to start up immediately when power is applied to the drives. Systems
hosting larger numbers of drives may be configured to start drives at
various times to avoid overloading the capabilities of the host system’s
power supply.
If you want to change the startup option for the drive, please refer to the
documentation provided with your Fibre Channel host adapter or host system.
Troubleshooting
• Drive does not spin up. Remove and then reinsert the drive into the
drive bay on the host-supplied carrier or tray. Make sure the drive makes
firm contact with the host’s FC backpanel connector. Also, check the
drive startup options for the Start_1 and Start_2 signals controlled from
your host adapter. See “Drive Startup Options” above for the four possible
startup options.
• Computer does not seem to recognize the drive. Verify that the drive
is enabled by the FC host adapter setup utility

Ich habe im Product Manual zu dieser Platte nachgesehen. Dort wird nochmals detailierter als im Installation Guide darauf eingegangen.

Das Verhalten von Motor Startup läßt sich nicht über Jumper auf der Platte sondern nur auf der Backplane oder eben durch den Hostadapter beeinflußen.

Ich weiß nicht wieviel dich die Platte gekostet hat, dies hängt schließlich davon ab ob sie neu oder eben ausrangiert ist. Bei einem Händler kann man durchaus reklamieren. Die 2 73GB Platten haben mich einige Euro (weniger als die Versandkosten) gekostet. Deshalb gab es auch keinen Grund mich darüber zu beklagen, daß eine Platte zu recht wegen der 96 Grown-Defects ausgemustert wurde.
Ein Low-Level-Formatieren solcher Platten ist normalerweise nicht mehr notwendig (Ausnahme: Abweichende Blockgröße).
Als Dauer inkl. Verify sind max. 50 Minuten angeben, ohne Verify dauert es max. 20 Minuten. Diese Zeiten beziehen sich auf den "Platte formatieren"-Befehl und nicht die entsprechende Option im Solaris format-Programm.
