So nun zur Lösung, auf die ich im übrigen wieder am Ende all' meine Optionen zufällig gestoßen bin:
Ich wusste bereits, dass Solaris 2.5.1 HW 11/97 das erste von der Ultra 80 unterstützte Release ist. In einer meiner letzten Beiträge schrieb ich:

An diesem Punkt war mir spätestens bewusst: die Ursache ist der 64-Bit Kernel "/platform/sun4u/kernel/sparcv9/unix". Also was wird man als nächsten Schritt in Erwägung ziehen - korrekt: den 32-Bit Kernel.

Ich glaube ich habe mich zu früh gefreut. :(
Jetzt konnte ich zwar mit Hilfe des 32-Bit Kernel Solaris 8 HW4 (2/04) installieren, doch ich kann das System nun nicht mit dem 64-Bit Kernel starten, da der schon zuvor beschriebene Effekt eintritt. Wie soll ich so etwas fixen?
Ich habe erst mal die OBP-Variable boot-file entsprechend auf den 32-Bit Kernel Mode konfiguriert:
